Plastic is everywhere. Our oceans are full of it too. By 2050, more plastic could be swimming in the ocean than fish. On average, across the globe, each person produces 0.74 kilograms of waste per day. Reason enough for us to come up with alternatives that, step by step, could make a life with only minimal plastic a reality.

Together with the Frankfurt food industry, our working group wants to declare war on the one-way madness. The solution is simple: reusable containers that can be returned to all participating restaurants using a deposit system. We have created an overview matrix that is continuously updated and gives a good overview of the range of existing reusable systems.
We are happy to provide advice and assistance to interested restaurateurs and support them in the selection or introduction of a reusable system and/or networking opportunities with the various reusable participants. Information also under Single use? Reusable!
-> The Zero Waste working group is an ambassador for the “Once Without, Please” initiative in Frankfurt (‘Einmal-ohne-bitte’)
The “Once Without, Please” campaign combats the flood of packaging by increasing visibility of shops where customers can purchase baked goods, cheese, sausages, and other food items unpackaged.
A sticker was developed for this project with the words “Once Without, Please”. This is intended to mark various shops, food stalls, supermarkets, and takeaway restaurants that offer the option of buying unpackaged goods or having your own containers filled on site. “Once Without, Please” is intended to overcome the plastic waste problem, support various retailers in transitioning to plastic-free sales, and enable customers to shop waste-free.

Die Frankfurter Refill-Botschafterinnen arbeiten mit Hochdruck daran, immer mehr Geschäfte zu gewinnen, die kostenlos mitgebrachte Trinkgefäße mit Leitungswasser auffüllen. Durstige erkennen die Auffüllmöglichkeiten an den Refill-Aufkleber an den Geschäften. Eine Aktion, die nicht nur Müll vermeidet und die Umwelt schützt, sondern auch neue Kunden in die Geschäfte lockt. Weitere Infos stecken hinter diesem Link.
-> Durchführung von Zero Waste Workshops für Kinder und Jugendliche
Wir finden es besonders wichtig, dass bereits Kinder mit dem Thema Zero Waste in Kontakt kommen, um ein Gefühl für den Umgang mit Lebensmitteln und Verpackungen zu bekommen. Deshalb wollen wir speziell für Kindergärten und Grundschulklassen Zero-waste-Workshops anbieten. Thematisch sind diese auf die Altersklassen abgestimmt; von der Herstellung von Bienenwachstüchern über „Kochen mit Essensresten“, Badekugeln selber machen und Aufklärung zur richtigen Mülltrennung und Recycling ist alles dabei.
Die Workshops sollen im Unverpacktladen gramm.genau in Bockenheim stattfinden. Dies hat den Vorteil, dass die Kinder auch direkt im Laden sehen, was es heißt, auf Verpackungen zu verzichten und wie so ein unverpackt-Einkauf von statten geht. Das Team von gramm.genau steht für alle Fragen zur Verfügung.
Ursprünglich sollten die ersten Workshops bereits im Mai starten. Aufgrund der aktuellen Lage wurden diese nun jedoch auf einen späteren Zeitpunkt im Jahr verschoben. Die aktuellen Termine werden dann auf der Webseite und Facebookseite des Ernährungsrats zu finden sein.

Das #MainBecher-Team der FES sorgt inzwischen für das Bio-Becherpfandsystem in Frankfurt. Eine tolle Sache für die gesamte Stadt! Klickt hier und lest die ganze Erfolgsgeschichte.
-> Taschenstationen auf dem Erzeugermarkt Konstablerwache zur Reduzierung von Einweg-Plastiktüten
Sie stehen seit Anfang Oktober 2019 bereit und helfen Kundinnen und Kunden dabei auf Plastikbeutel zu verzichten, selbst wenn man gerade keinen Beutel eingesteckt hat: Die Taschenstationen auf dem traditionellen Erzeugermarkt an der Konstablerwache.
Insgesamt sind sechs Taschenstationen auf dem Mark verteilt, wetterfeste Schilder weisen auf sie hin. Es ist ein stummer Aufruf an uns alle, weniger Plastiktüten zu verwenden und gleichsam eine Hilfestellung für den Alltag, wenn in der Eile wieder kein Beutel mitgenommen wurde.
